There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

Single molecule studies on biological macromolecular assemblies
School Colloquia
Biological processes involving macromolecules and macromolecular assemblies often entail complex structural and positional dynamics of the molecules as important functional elements. These dynamics on the microsecond or longer time scale can be efficiently monitored with single molecule methods. Based on single molecule fluorescence and force measurements, we study tRNA selection by the ribosome, DNA clamp loading, and changes in nucleosome structure and dynamics induced upon DNA methylation and histone acetylation. I will present our findings in the three systems which demonstrate the stochastic nature of slow biological processes engaging macromolecular assemblies.
