Two faculty, Prof. Nick Hud and Prof. Raquel Lieberman, have received fellowships (Vasser-Woolley for Hud and Blanchard for Lieberman).

Dr. Carrie Shepler, Academic Professional in the School of Chemistry & Biochemistry, has received undergraduate advisor award.

Dr. Carrie Shepler has been awarded the 2010 Outstanding Faculty Undergraduate Academic Advisor Award. Her students and colleagues provided much support for her nomination. She came to Georgia Tech in 2008. Her responsibilities as an Academic Professional are in the development and management of the advisement program for undergraduates, individual student advisement, mentorship of the Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society, undergraduate seminar course instruction and coordination, advisement of student organizations, and instruction and support for the general chemistry program. In the future, Carrie hopes to be involved in the development of a more extensive undergraduate research program, alumni relations, and chemical education research and development with the general chemistry program. The award will be presented at the Annual Faculty/Staff Honors Luncheon on Thursday, April 15, 2010.

Prof. Raquel Lieberman has been awarded the Blanchard Fellowship. The Blanchard Fellowship was initiated in 1999 by the endowment established by Elwood P. “Doc” Blanchard, Jr. to fund an assistant professor who is midway toward tenure (in the 3rd or 4th year). The major criterion for success will be maximum impact on the career of the awardee.

Raquel came to Georgia Tech in January 2008 as an Assistant Professor from her graduate work at Northwestern and postdoctoral fellowship at the Center for Neurologic Diseases, Harvard Medical School.

Elwood P. Blanchard Jr., who earned a chemistry degree at Tech in 1953 and a master’s in chemistry in 1954, retired as vice chairman of the board of du Pont, headquartered in Wilmington, Del.

Prof. Nick Hud has received the Vasser Woolley Faculty Fellowship in the School of Chemistry & Biochemistry. Nick is a Professor and has been with Chemistry and Georgia Tech since 1999. He came to Georgia from graduate work at the University of California, Davis and postdoctoral positions at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and UCLA.

This fellowship is sponsored by the Vasser Woolley Foundation.

Congratulations, Carrie, Raquel, and Nick!
