The School of Chemistry and Biochemistry is pleased to announce the competition for the 2010 Graduate Student Awards Symposium.

All full-time graduate students who have attained candidacy in the PhD program (and have not yet defended their thesis) in the School of Chemistry and Biochemistry are encouraged to apply for these awards which recognize outstanding achievement in the graduate program at Georgia Tech.

The application consists of a vita including:

- details of your academic record (incl. GIT graduate GPA and expected date of graduation),

- list of papers (published, in press, submitted),

- list of presentations (clearly indicating the presenting author),

- list of awards

- list of GIT classes taught (as a TA)

Applicants should also submit copies of peer-reviewed published papers as well as submitted and accepted manuscripts.

Applications should be submitted by noon on Monday, September 20, 2010 to Ms. Denisha Thomas in M Bldg 2222K. The graduate committee will select five finalists for these awards who will be invited to make 20 minute presentations at the Awards Symposium at 3:00-5:00 pm on Friday, October 8, 2010 in the "M" building lecture hall (G011). These presentations will be judged by a committee of faculty to determine the award winners. Prizes of $1000, $750 and $500 will be awarded. Awards for Outstanding Teaching Assistants will also be presented.

All students, faculty and staff are invited to the symposium, alumni reception/poster session, and homecoming activities on October 8-9, 2010. This is an excellent forum to discuss research projects with each other, especially for new graduate students (who are required to attend) who are investigating opportunities for thesis research and searching for a research advisor. In addition, alumni have also been invited to attend the reception and poster session as part of GT Homecoming Weekend (as well as tailgating activities the next morning). This is a great opportunity see old faces and meet new ones.

Faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students are invited to present a poster. If you plan to attend and/or present a poster, please RSVP (see below). Best Undergraduate Poster and Best Graduate Poster will be awarded ($$$). Door prizes will also be given to those that attend and vote for best poster. Light hors d’oeuvres and refreshments will be served.

Hope to see you there.
