Title: Three Short Stories Without an Ending

Francisco Javier Rodríguez is currently the Principal at r s v p architects in San Juan, the Dean at the Universidad de Puerto Rico School of Architecture and the director of (in)forma.  Mr. Rodríguez graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with High Honors and won a Second Prize in the William Van Alen International Student Competition.  He studied a year at the Université de Paris before continuing his education at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design, where he studied under Moshen Mostafavi, Jude LeBlanc, Nader Tehrani, Dave Hickey and Michael Hays. He worked on his thesis with Jorge Silvetti, George Baird and Val Warke, exploring the relationship between architecture and ideology. In 1997, he earned a Master of Architecture with Distinction, winning the American Institute of Architects Medal, the Portfolio Award and the Fulbright Fellowship. 

Mr. Rodríguez has taught at Harvard, Northeastern University, the University of Seville, the Universidad de los Andes (Cartagena), Universidad de Cantabria(Suances) and the Boston Architectural Center and has been a Guest Critic at Auburn, ETSA-Sevilla, Cornell, Harvard, Rice, MIT, Penn, Georgia Tech, Pratt, RISD, Catholic University(Santo Domingo and Washington DC), City Colleye-NY, Northeastern, the Politécnica-Puerto Rico, UNIBE, UniDis, and the University of Houston.  He has authored numerous articles and publications and was the editor of Contemporary Architecture in Puerto Rico 1993-2010. In 2010, the American Academy in Rome invited him as a Visiting Scholar to continue his research on architecture and pedagogy.

Francisco Javier Rodríguez has lectured at Harvard, Georgia Tech, Auburn, Tulane, Oklahoma State, the Universidad Politécnica de PR, UPR-Río Piedras, UPR-Mayaguez, the Universidad Central de Caracas in Venezuela, Universidad Iberoaméricana(Santo Domingo), the International Centre in Madrid, the Universidad de Cantabria-Suances, Spain, the Bankers' Club in San Juan, Rice, Sevilla, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, the San Juan-Barcelona International Symposium, the AIAS Forums in Cincinnati and Minneapolis, the World Congress on Housing and Planning, the  Iberoamerican Congress on Urbanism, the Santo Domingo ENEFA, MUNDANEUM and the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. 

Mr. Rodríguez worked for Machado-Silvetti, Gabriel Ruiz-Cabrero, Jorge Rigau and Héctor Arce before founding his current practice, rsvp.  His work—which covers a field of scales from urban furniture for a company in Barcelona to various master-plans--has earned five BIENAL Awards, the URBE Award, four AIA Citations, and Honorable Mentions in the Premio Obra CEMEX, the CAAPPR Innovative Housing Competition and the Williamsburg Waterfront Venue Competition.  It has been exhibited at the Architectural League in NY, Art-Basel, UIA-Barcelona and the Bienal Iberoamericana de Diseño in Madrid. His firm was awarded the 2005 AIAS National Emerging Practice Award and participated on the ORDOS 100 Project in China.  He was recently selected by Caribbean Business as one of its “Forty Under Forty” and by El Nuevo Día newspaper as one of the ten most influential pioneers in Puerto Rico for the year 2008.
