You are invited to the upcoming Catalyst Workshop on Games in Education, co-sponsored by CETL and C21U. This workshop will be held on Thursday, January 19, 3:00-5:30 pm in Klaus 1116E.
Games have a long history of being used in education, and they can be incredibly effective at engaging and motivating students. Nowadays, 65% of our students are frequent video or social game players. This creates new opportunities to incorporate games, gamification, and/or the underlying psychology of game design into our educational system. As such, the question of how to use games to facilitate learning is a question all educators and interested parties need to answer.
The workshop has two special aspects. First, it is an “unconference,” or a participant-driven meeting that features discussion and interaction. You can read more about what to expect at an unconference at the C21U website: [http://c21u.gatech.edu/latestunconference].
Second, the workshop runs in a catalyst style, which means that we catalyze actions we all can agree on. In fact, as an outcome of our first workshop, we have generated an agenda to augment open courseware adoption at Georgia Tech.
