The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) will be hosting a National Health and Livability Summit at the OMNI CNN Center in Atlanta April 17-19. NRPA's Health and Livability Summit will bring together local, state, and national officials and citizen advocates to discuss park and recreation agencies' contributions to improving quality of life, health, and livability. The Summit will showcase 25 park and recreation agencies that show leadership in this area. Participants will consider new national policies to aide communities in fostering healthy lifestyles and more livable communities. The Summit will begin with a Keynote Address (Toward a Healthier Nation) from Dr. Julie Geberding, Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and will also feature a welcome from Governor Sonny Perdue and a luncheon hosted by Mayor Shirley Franklin (Fostering Healthy, Livable Communities through Policy Leadership).

Each day of the Summit focuses on a different theme which will be presented during the break-out sessions. On April 17, Framing the Issues, participants are informed about the latest health statistics and public health research relevant to parks and recreation. April 18 focuses on management best practices being used nation-wide by public health and parks and recreation agencies. The Summit concludes on April 19 with a Call to Action - Partnering for a Change, which will provide attendees with the tools to execute best practices for physical activity promotion, proper nutrition advocacy, safety and injury prevention strategies, disaster preparedness, and contributions to the built environment.

The registration fees are as follows: On or before March 19 - $335 (regular), $165 (student); after March 19 - $395 (regular), $195 (student).
