Summary Sentence: Features national expert on TDR

Full Summary: The Chattahoochee Hill Country (CHC) Conservancy, Atlanta Regional Commission, and GA Chapter of the American Planning Association invite you to attend a TDR Implementation Class on November 9, 2007, from 9am-4pm in the CHC's Rico Community Center.

TDR is a growth management tool that has been used around the country for years, but has only recently been implemented in Georgia. In 2002 the Chattahoochee Hill Country (CHC) created the first TDR program in Georgia designed to protect vast areas of rural and agricultural land while concentrating development in three Village nodes. The program has continued to develop while the market for TDR begins to emerge. The Chattahoochee Hill Country Conservancy has acted as the TDR Bank for the last few years and provides transaction services, a TDR registry, and education on TDRs to other communities. The CHC Conservancy is working to protect the ecological health and quality of life in a 65,000-acre area of south Fulton County, northwestern Coweta County, eastern Carroll County and eastern Douglas County.

To help communities become better acquainted with this land management tool and provide them the fundamentals on how to go about implementing it, the CHC Conservancy is partnering with the Atlanta Regional Commission and the American Planning Association-Georgia Chapter in sponsoring a one-day TDR Implementation Class. The class will feature Keynote Speaker Rick Pruetz, FAICP, the national expert on TDR. Speakers and panelists include Steve Cover (Planning Commissioner, City of Atlanta), Laurie Fowler (UGA Institute of Ecology), Jamie Baker Roskie (UGA Land Use Clinic), Shannon Kettering (ECOS Environmental Design), Michelle Macauley (Fulton County's Dept. of Environment and Community Development), and Bill Dreyfoos (Smith, White, Sharma, & Halpern).
