Jeremy Sarnat, Assistant Professor, Environmental and Occupational Health, Emory University, and Rebecca Watts-Hull, Program Manager, Mothers & Others for Clean Air, Georgia Conservancy are going to speak about the effects of poor air quality, the influences of traffic and urban sprawl, and the guidelines that could mitigate poor air quality.
Jeremy Sarnat: Sprawl, Air Pollution & Human Health
Jeremy Sarnat is an assistant professor of environmental health at the Rollins School of Public Health of Emory University. His research interests include characterizing air pollution exposures in various populations, in particular sensitive cohorts such as children, seniors and individuals with cardiopulmonary disease. A specific focus of his work examines how exposure assessment informs environmental epidemiology and the impact of exposure misclassification and confounding on air pollution epidemiologic findings.
Rebecca Watts Hull: Helping Georgians Breathe Easier through Advocacy and Avoidance
Rebecca Watts Hull has 20 years experience in environmental project management and environmental education. Rebecca holds a B.A. in psychology and an M.S. in Natural Resources and Environment and has published papers in environmental education and international development journals. She has worked in environmental project management for governmental and nonprofit organizations including the U.S. Peace Corps and World Wildlife Fund. Rebecca taught science and worked as Director of Curriculum at an independent school in Atlanta and then served as science and environmental curriculum writer/designer with Consulting Services for Education, LLC (CS4Ed) and with California's Education and Environment Initiative (EEI). She joined the Georgia Conservancy in April 2007 as Program Manager for Mothers & Others for Clean Air.
