There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

"I think trash cans as we know them will disappear," says Valerie Thomas, Associate Professor in the School of Public Policy, with a joint appointment in the School of Industrial and Systems Engineering. She clarifies, "Not to the extent that the chair will go walking off." Thomas has been working on a Smart Trash concept, which she has dubbed "product self-management," that is based on the same Universal Product Code (UPC) technology used in grocery stores... She is working on a prototype of a recycling bin outfitted with a bar-code reader that would register details about products you have just discarded. Source: ONEARTH.com, December 7, 2011
