Dr. Catherine L. Ross, Harry West Professor of Quality Growth and Regional Development and director of the Center for Quality Growth and Regional Development (CQGRD) at Georgia Tech, was recently interviewed for Georgia Weekly, the public-affairs television series produced by and shown on Georgia Public Broadcasting. Dr. Ross's interview will be aired February 10th at 1 p.m.
In the interview, Dr. Ross discusses the idea of the "megaregion" and how it could be useful in guiding future decisions about infrastructure, planning, economic development, and resource allocation, not just for Georgia but for the entire region. Since 2005 Dr. Ross and researchers at CQGRD and Georgia Tech have been investigating the Piedmont Atlantic megaregion, stretching from Birmingham to Charlotte, and how making decisions at the megaregional level could help position the megaregion and its cities to be competitive in the global economy. In January 2006 CQGRD hosted a two-day symposium of political, civic, and business leaders from throughout the megaregion, and Dr. Ross is currently leading a team of scholars from around the world to write a book on the future of megaregions.
Georgia Weekly, hosted by Susan Hoffman, premiered in October 2005, replacing Georgia Week in Review. It follows a long tradition of in-depth local public affairs productions on GPB.
