Despite their distinct differences, Mayors Shirley Franklin (Atlanta) and Pat McCrory (Charlotte) agree on the need for collaboration in the Piedmont Atlantic Megaregion. They along with other regional mayors have established the "Piedmont Alliance for Quality Growth- Mayors, Business, Academia." Transportation and water issues face the region, prohibiting future development and economic competitiveness.
