Summary Sentence:

Dr. Ross comments on transit funding debate.

Full Summary:

Dr. Catherine Ross helped the AJC with fact checking when a politician claimed that new transit service would not relieve congestion. Ross affirmed that neither road nor transit capacity could reduce congestion, but that transit options improved quality of life.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution sought out Dr. Catherine Ross to answer the question, "Does rail transit reduce congestion?" Ross, director of the Center for Quality Growth and Regional Development and former Executive Director of the Georgia Regional Transit Authority (GRTA), is an expert on regional transportation planning.

"Nothing solves the congestion problem. Neither option [cars or rail] takes precedent," said Ross. A past board member of the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority, she thinks rail can create better commutes and improve a region’s overall quality of life.
