  • Rigoberto Hernandez, professor in the School of Chemistry and Biochemistry, was named a member of the advisory committee for the Cottrell Scholars Collaborative.
  • C.F. Jeff Wu, Coca-Cola Chair in Engineering Statistics and professor in the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISyE), was selected by the Committee of Presidents of Statistical Societies (COPSS) as the recipient of the 2011 COPSS Fisher Lecture Award.
  • Walt de Heer, Regents’ Professor in the School of Physics, received the first Utz-Hellmuth Felcht Award at the International Carbon Conference in Shanghai.
  • Joel Sokol, associate professor in ISyE, was selected to attend the National Academy of Engineering’s 2011 Frontiers of Engineering Education Symposium.
  • Ellen Do, associate professor in the College of Architecture and College of Computing, was awarded the 2011 Association for Computer-Aided Design in Architecture Award for Innovative Research.
  • Gary May, dean of the College of Engineering, was awarded a Doctor Honoris Causa of Engineering by the Board of Directors of the Universidad Latina de Panama.
  • Bill Todd, professor of the practice in the College of Management, was honored by the Irish America Magazine and Keenan’s Kids Foundation as a Star of the South.
  • Alfred Dolder, temporary professional advisor in Facilities, received a Distinguished Service Award from the Board of Regents.
  • Ravi Bellamkonda, professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and associate vice president at the Institute level, was named the David Flanagan Chair in Biomedical Engineering.
  • Gilda Barabino, professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and associate chair for graduate studies, was named the next president of the Biomedical Engineering Society.
  • Kathleen Wasch, attorney in Legal Affairs, has been selected to represent Clark Atlanta University, Georgia State University, Tech, Morehouse College, Morris Brown College and Spelman College on the Atlanta Board of Ethics.
  • Philip Shapira, professor in the School of Public Policy, has been named chair for a new National Academies committee that will examine “21st Century Manufacturing: The Role of the Manufacturing Extension Partnership Program of the National Institute of Standards and Technology.”
  • Rosalind Meyers, vice president of campus services, has received the gold Chancellor’s Customer Service Award for Leadership.
  • Julie Swann, an associate professor in ISyE, was named one of the Atlanta Business Chronicle’s 40 Under 40.
