Presentation Title: “The Speech Exemplar in the Multimodal Classroom”
This
presentation will discuss strategies for incorporating speeches from
this year’s Freshman Reading Project selection, 'I Have a Dream:
Writings and Speeches that Changed the World', into Engl1101 and 1102
courses.
Michelle Gibbons received received her PhD from the
University of Pittsburgh in 2010. Her research interests include
rhetorical theory and criticism.
Presentation Title: “The Impact
of Orality: Using the Personal Essay to Explore and Develop Oral
Language Skills in the Classroom”
This lecture will examine how the
personal “This I Believe” essay can be used as a means to develop and
appreciate oral language skills.
Malavika Shetty received her PhD
in Linguistics from the University of Texas at Austin. Her areas of
interest are linguistic anthropology, sociolinguistics, and narrative.
