Rob Jenkins, a 25-year community-college veteran and The Chronicle of Higher Education's "Two-Year Track" columnist, will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of teaching at a community college. He'll offer practical advice on how to tailor your application and CV for two-year college jobs, how to ace the interview, and what to expect once you land an offer. He'll also talk candidly about issues like earning tenure, moving up into administration, and using a community-college job as a "stepping stone" to a university position. The presentation will be highly interactive, with questions and discussion greatly encouraged.
Best known for his monthly "Two-Year Track" column in The Chronicle of Higher Education, Rob Jenkins is also the author of Building a Career in America's Community Colleges and an active blogger at www.chronicle.com and other sites. He has spent 25 years at five different two-year colleges, as a part-time instructor, a full-time instructor, a department chair, a program director, and an academic dean. Currently, he serves as associate professor at Georgia Perimeter College.
