The Georgia Tech Choirs present:

THEATRE of the IMAGINATION

A journey through choral music of the past 75 years

Georgia Tech is well known in the academic and professional communities for providing twenty-first century students with a world-class education, as well as being ‘distinguished by its commitment to improving the human condition through advanced science and technology.’

The Georgia Tech School of Music offers the Master of Science and PhD degrees in music technology and sponsors the Center for Music Technology, where cutting-edge research meets practical application.

Another dimension of the Georgia Tech School of Music is first-rate performing vocal and instrumental ensembles comprised of undergraduate and graduate students, representing all the colleges of the institute. These ensembles often incorporate technology into their performance presenations.

On Sunday, November 20, at 3:00 pm, three Georgia Tech choral ensembles will present a rare marriage of music and technology in a concert entitled Theatre of the Imagination. The Georgia Tech mixed choirs (Chorale and Chamber Choir) under the direction of Jerry Ulrich will join the Georgia Tech Women’s Chorus under the direction of Dr. Melissa Arasi to present representative choral music spanning the past 75 years.

The concert will include the Pinkham Christmas Cantata for chorus, brass, and organ; Totus Tuus by Gorecki; the rarely performed Cantata #1 by Anton Webern; and music by Eric Whitacre, Arvo Part, and Egil Hovland.

The concert will also include the Southeastern United States premiere of Frank Clark’s Theatre of the Imagination, a multi-media piece for EVI (Electronic Valve Instrument), visual images, soloists, and chorus. The Georgia Tech Chamber Choir recently premiered this work at the The Music in Architecture • Architecture in Music International Symposium at the University of Texas at Austin.

The concert, which is admission free, will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, located at 1328 North Peachtree Street NE (corner of Peachtree and 16th St.), next to the High Museum of Art.
