"In many ways, the first year has been a great success. Looking back on what was available and being done a year ago, BIIC has made huge leaps foward," writes Johann Weber, a PhD student in the School of Public Policy, referring to the Georgia Tech Bicycle Infrastructure Improvement Committee (BIIC) of which he is the chairman.

Weber relates the story of BIIC's creation in the Fall of 2010 and details its accomplishments since, including securing funds for the addition of 0.8 miles of bike lanes and six bike racks and the creation of a website devoted to bicycling at Georgia Tech (bike.gatech.edu). The BIIC was awarded the 2011 Georgia Tech Environmental Initiative Award in recognition of its accomplishments.
