Video Game Chip Could Help Find Oil Reserves

There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. Computational science and engineering Professor David Bader has been working with IBM on developing its PowerXCell processor, a supercomputing chip originally designed for the Playstation 3, to search for oil reserves in what is called ultradeep water – 5,000 feet or more deep.
