There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

Andrea Thomaz, assistant professor in Interactive Computing, has been named one of 2009’s Top Innovators Under 35 by MIT Technology Review. Thomaz’s research focuses on social interactions between robots and humans; her robots give visual cues—such as gestures and facial expressions—to indicate whether they understand what a person is telling them. Thomaz also develops machine learning methods to help robots more quickly learn physical tasks, particularly from teachers who are not necessarily programmers.
