The African American Student Union is hosting its annual event, Onyx Ball, on February 25th, 2023 from 7-10pm. Onyx Ball is an annual celebration hosted by the African American Student Union (AASU) at Georgia Tech during Black History Month. This event is designed for African American college students in the Atlanta area to come together and celebrate the accomplishments of the black community. Guests dress up in their finest suits and dresses, enjoy a special performance from members of the black Georgia Tech community, and show off their best dance moves. It's an occasion for everyone to see and be seen.
This year’s theme is Premiere Night: A Black Carpet Affair, intending to showcase and appreciate blackness in all its forms. A crown serves as part of an embraced identity. It is a badge of honor resting effortlessly amongst the highest points. In the black community, our crowns happen to be thick, curly, and typically of high maintenance. Our crown is of course our textured mane, which we had to develop to appreciate and embrace like royalty. The objective is to celebrate, appreciate, and educate our crowns as they emulate hairstyles that showcase its stunning diversity.
