Full Summary:

She will begin her position February 1.

Keona Lewis Ph.D., associate director of research and evaluation for diversity, equity, and inclusion with Institute Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Georgia Institute of Technology has been named assistant provost for academic diversity and inclusion at the University of Notre Dame, effective Feb. 1.

Lewis joined Institute Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in 2013 as a program review and research manager, and began developing workshops and training opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to understand how practices such as bias and microaggressions negatively impact an organization’s culture.

In her current role as associate director for research, Lewis has collaborated with a diverse group of campus community members to evaluate and improve opportunities to foster a sense of belonging among students, faculty, and staff at the Institute. She led the annual Diversity Champion Awards committee to recognize those who have actively worked to advance the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion at Georgia Tech and in the greater Atlanta community.

“Dr. Lewis has been instrumental in the progress Georgia Tech has made in becoming a more inclusive community throughout the past several years,” said Archie W. Ervin, Ph.D., vice president of Institute Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Georgia Tech. “Her passion for understanding the lived experience of our students, faculty, and staff and her ability to think strategically about how to make improvements that will have an impact are qualities that will continue to serve her in her career. We are thankful for her dedication and wish her all the best at Notre Dame.”

As assistant provost, Lewis will oversee the university's vision, strategy, and community-building programs for academic diversity and inclusion. She will also hold an appointment of assistant professor of the practice in Notre Dame’s Center for Social Concerns.
