Global DevelopmentProjects seeking to further U.N. Sustainable Development Goals, examine global health disparities, and enhance global learning are among 11 funded by grants recently awarded by the Atlanta Global Research & Education Collaborative (AGREC).
The projects funded by AGREC’s $105,000 in grants for AY 2022-2023 cover several other critical areas as well, including workforce development, healthcare access, language barriers, and cultural history for immigrant, indigenous, and Black communities in greater Atlanta.
“AGREC supports a robust community of researchers who collaborate in projects that will leave a longstanding mark in the Atlanta area,” said Juan Carlos Rodriguez, associate professor of Spanish and faculty co-director of the Atlanta Global Studies Center (AGSC), which includes AGREC. “The AGSC is very honored to participate in this collaborative effort.”
Georgia Tech and the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts participate in AGREC via membership in the AGSC.
Research teams consist of faculty from at least two AGREC institutions who collaborate with community partners for each project.
AGREC is comprised of units from six university partners: AGSC, a consortium of Georgia Tech and Georgia State University; Emory University’s Office of Global Strategy and Initiatives; Agnes Scott College’s SUMMIT Center for Global Learning and Leadership Development; Spelman College’s Gordon Zeto Center for Global Education; and Kennesaw State University’s (KSU) Division of Global Affairs.
Since its 2020 launch, AGREC has supported 26 collaborative, interdisciplinary research and education projects with a focus on community engagement and global issues.
