Creating a safe space for people with food allergies, Tech Dining will debut the Model A Food Truck on Wednesday, Oct. 12, at 11 a.m. on Tech Green. The top 9 allergen-free food truck first appeared at Taste of Tech Square to much fanfare.
Items served will include specialty burgers such as The Georgia Peach with peach chutney and fried Vidalia onions and an array of side items including fried brussel sprouts, french fries, and house-made chips. All items will be free of the top 9 allergens such as milk, eggs, and nuts.
David Huppert, executive chef, has seen firsthand the difficulties people with food allergies face when eating out. “I wanted to create something that they can safely enjoy and not have to worry about it,” he said.
"All students reserve the right to safely eat and avoid their food allergies,” explained Heather Petty, registered dietician nutritionist. Petty struggles with her own food allergy and said “we spend our entire lives avoiding our allergens and finding food that won't make us sick each day.”
To support students who face the challenges of life with a food allergy, Tech Dining makes it easy to identify ingredients and potential allergens at all dining locations across campus. The Model A Food Truck is an additional way to provide safe options to these students.
The food truck will operate Mondays through Fridays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
