A remote webinar facilitated by Laura Lunsford, assistant dean and professor of psychology at Campbell University, and Vicki Baker, professor of economics and management at Albion College. Together, Lunsford and Baker founded Lead Mentor Develop, an organization designed to support mid-career faculty to become stronger mentors and leaders at their home institutions. This webinar will focus on strategies to build and improve mentoring relationships between tenured faculty and new faculty; on department chairs facilitating mentoring relationships in their home departments; and on how mentors and mentees can establish their horizon of expectations for mentoring and being mentored.

Lunsford is an expert in mentoring and leadership development. A U.S. Fulbright Scholar to Germany, she has authored over 45 peer-reviewed articles, chapters, and books on these topics, including books The Mentor’s Guide: Five steps to build a successful mentor program (2nd Ed)., Success after tenure: Supporting mid-career faculty; Developing faculty in liberal arts colleges. She co-edited the Sage Handbook of Mentoring and co-wrote the monograph Mentoring Undergraduate Students. She co-authored one of the National Academy of Sciences most downloaded reports The Science of Effective Mentorship in STEMM, with a companion online portal: https://www.nap.edu/resource/25568/interactive/.
She is a professor and assistant dean of psychology and social work at Campbell University. Lunsford was a tenured associate professor at the University of Arizona and has served as the director of: UNCW’s executive education center; the Park Scholarships at NC State; and of alumni relations at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business. Her B.A. & Ph.D. are from North Carolina State and her M.S. is from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. A board member of the International Mentoring Association, she is also on the editorial board of the International Journal of Mentoring and Coaching in Education.
Recognized as a “Top 100 Visionary” in Education by the Global Forum for Education and Learning (2020-2021), Baker is at the forefront of innovation and strategy in faculty and leadership development. As a faculty member herself and Fulbright Specialist Alumna (Utrecht Netherlands), her goal is to help faculty members and colleges and universities thrive. She earned her Ph.D. (Higher Education) and M.S. (Management & Organization) from Penn State University, MBA from Clarion University, and B.S. from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Baker is the E. Maynard Aris Endowed Professor in Economics and Management at Albion College, director of the Albion College Community Collaborative (AC3), and serves as an instructor for Penn State University’s World Campus. Prior to joining the academy as a faculty member, Baker worked at Harvard Business School (Executive Education) and AK Steel Corporation. She is the author of over 85 peer-reviewed articles, chapters, invited works, and books including Charting Your Path to Full: A Guide for Women Associate Professors, Success After Tenure: Supporting Mid-Career Faculty, and Developing Faculty in Liberal Arts Colleges. Her book, Managing Your Academic Career: A Guide to Re-envision Mid-Career (Routledge) was published in April 2022.
