The School of Public Policy and The Law, Science and Technology Program are honored to welcome Polly J. Price as a speaker for the upcoming Meg and Sam Flax Lecture Series on Public Policy for a talk titled “Governing Disease Amidst Plagues in the Nation.”
Price is the Asa Griggs Candler Professor of Law and a professor of global health in the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University. A public health law scholar as well as a legal historian and citizenship and immigration law expert, she has published, lectured, and taught widely about immigration and citizenship, public health law and regulatory policy, federalism, property rights, and the judiciary.
Price will discuss themes from her new book, Plagues in the Nation: How Epidemics Shaped America. Throughout U.S. history, law and government affected the outcome of epidemics and major outbreaks of contagious disease — and those outbreaks in turn shaped our government. Price presents a fascinating history that has never been fully explored, and she draws important conclusions about gaps in our governmental and legal response faced by elected officials for generations.
A book signing will follow Price’s lecture, and food will be provided. RSVP for the event here.
