Brigitte Stepanov, assistant professor of French and Francophone studies in the School of Modern Languages, presented her paper during the “Inviting Derrida to the Table of Muslim Women Writers: Hospitality and Hostility toward the Middle Eastern Woman” panel at the Modern Language Association International Symposium in Glasgow, Scotland.

Stepanov’s paper, titled “Avatars of Scheherazade: Djebar’s Retelling of the Thousand and One Nights,” draws on her book chapter “Djebar and Scheherazade: On Muslim Women, Past and Present,” published in Memory, Voice, and Identity Muslim Women’s Writing from across the Middle East in 2021.
