Congratulations to Jancy Liu, the graduate student winner of this year’s Atlanta Economics Club scholarship. In addition to the $2,000 scholarship, Liu will also receive a membership in the Atlanta Economics Club, starting in January and running through December.
Get to know more about Liu and her work through this interview:
What are you researching?
I am interested in applying behavioral science and applied microeconomics methodologies to solve empirical environmental issues. My current project relates to the effects of social norms on green consumption. Social norms indicate the explicit or implicit rules of beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors that are expected in a particular social group or culture. My current project uses an online survey to investigate how different types of social norms work associated with multiple eco-labels. It aims to help eco-labels fulfill their promises to cooperate with the power of markets, educate and persuade consumers, lead to changes and positive competition in the production process, and eventually lead to environmental improvements.
How will the scholarship support your work?
It can compensate my expense to attend conference and present this project to gain insightful feedbacks. In addition to the scholarship, it also offers me the membership in the Atlanta Economics Club so that I can have chances to join their events and meet other researchers.
How did you come across the scholarship?
I read the news about previous economic student who got it a while ago, and I registered the online seminar notification from Atlanta Economics Club, so I got reminders before the scholarship DDL as well.
Is there anyone you would like to thank?
I would like thank Prof. Tiber Besedes who supported my idea to apply this scholarship from the very beginning.
