The Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts welcomed Focus scholars on Monday, April 11. The Focus program at Georgia Tech is one of the nation’s premier programs for raising awareness of graduate education. It is designed to attract highly skilled students who have historically been underrepresented in higher education and encourage them to pursue graduate degrees, primarily at Georgia Tech.
The Focus scholars met faculty advisors and current graduate students and learned more about graduate programs at the Ivan Allen College. Dean Kaye Husbands Fealing spoke to the scholars about her journey into academics.
Associate Dean Shatakshee Dhongde, who organized the Ivan Allen College program, stated that she was impressed by the range of backgrounds Focus scholars came from and how keen they were in finding out more about graduate studies at the college. Dhongde noted that the scholars were very interested in the interdisciplinary nature of IAC programs, the flexibility offered for the students and the research opportunities provided to graduate students.
