Biographical Sketch of the Speaker: Mat Hans (Ph.D. ECE 1998 - Georgia Tech CSIP alumnus) leads a group of Applied Scientists at Amazon in Seattle, Sunnyvale, and Boston. His group develops Alexa speech recognition models required for accurate and fast speech recognition for English, Spanish, and Japanese languages. Before joining Amazon in 2017, he led product commercialization at DTS for seven years launching new products such as DTS: X. Prior to this, Dr. Hans spent ten years as a researcher at Motorola and Hewlett-Packard Laboratories. While at HP, he was the resident researcher and program manager at Georgia Tech in Atlanta from 2000 to 2004. Dr. Hans was a Georgia Tech ECE Advisory Board member from 2008 to 2012. He and his wife, Tricia, and their three children live in Seattle.
