On Monday, April 25, CREATE-X will host the spring 2022 Idea to Prototype (I2P) Showcase in the Marcus Nanotechnology Building atrium from 5 to 7 p.m. At the showcase, student inventors across campus will present over 30 functional prototypes with application to real-world problems. The event is free and open to the public.

The showcase is the culmination of the I2P course, where Georgia Tech students spend a semester turning their invention idea into a working product. Students earn research credit for the course, in addition to receiving financial support and faculty mentorship.

The I2P course was established through CREATE-X, a Georgia Tech initiative devoted to instilling entrepreneurial confidence in students and empowering them to launch successful startups. CREATE-X consists of three programmatic elements – LEARN-MAKE-LAUNCH – and I2P is a key part of MAKE.

"The Georgia Tech CREATE-X MAKE program helps you concentrate and multiply your invention efforts. With a team of your peers, the MAKE courses such as Idea to Prototype and Capstone provide the infrastructure – including mentorship, money, and course credit – to help you develop a working prototype of your invention idea,” said Craig Forest, Associate Director of MAKE and Professor in the George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering.

The showcase in April will highlight the talent and hard work of students who participated in I2P throughout the spring semester. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place.

In addition to the showcase, CREATE-X is now accepting applications for the summer and fall semesters of I2P. Teams accepted into the program will have the opportunity to advance their invention idea towards a real product by performing basic research, analysis, building, and testing. They will receive a $500 reimbursement for physical expenses along with course credit and mentorship from a Georgia Tech faculty member. To learn more or to apply, visit the CREATE-X website.

CREATE-X is a Georgia Tech initiative to instill entrepreneurial confidence in students and empower them to launch successful startups. The broader goal of this initiative is to provide the knowledge, skills, abilities, and experiences that will give Georgia Tech graduates the confidence to create their own future and confidently pursue entrepreneurial opportunities.
