Melissa Banzhaf will provide a presentation and Q&A in this event, hosted by the Georgia Tech School of Public Policy as part of its speaker series.
Banzhaf will provide an overview of the Atlanta Federal Statistical Research Data Center (FSRDC), one of 30 FSRDCs across the country. The Atlanta FSRDC provides access to numerous internal versions of government-sponsored datasets, including datasets from the Census Bureau, the Bureau of Economic Analysis, the National Center for Health Statistics, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and the National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics among others. Banzhaf will explain the many advantages of using restricted data, the process for developing a successful proposal to use the data, and the logistics of conducting research in the Atlanta FSRDC. Banzhaf received a B.A. in Economics from Duke University and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has served as a Census Bureau economist and the administrator of the Atlanta FSRDC since it opened in 2011. Her current research focuses on the economics of the family and the long-term economic outcomes of air pollution exposure. Prior to working for the U.S. Census Bureau, she held positions with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics in Washington, and Triangle Economic Research, and RTI International in Durham, N.C.
