Four Georgia Tech undergraduate students and research fellows in the Sci Fi Lab recently appeared as guest experts on the award-winning horror podcast, The Outer Dark.

Olivia Kiklica, Jessica Taetle, Josie Benner, and Edeliz Zuleta appeared on the February episode. Kiklica and Taetle are computational media majors. Benner and Zuleta are majoring in biomedical engineering with a minor in science fiction studies.

Lisa Yaszek, Regents Professor of Science Fiction Studies in the School of Literature, Media, and Communication, moderated the podcast.

In the episode, titled "The [SF] Future is Female!: The 1970s," the students shared their experiences researching science fiction for Yaszek's forthcoming anthology, The Future is Female! Vol 2: The 1970s. The group discussed what they learned about feminism through their readings of women speculative fiction writers in the 1970s, how the works relate to and anticipate today’s science fiction, gender issues — including trans identities, and contemporary and future Earth society.
