Join us for a conversation with Anne Applebaum, staff writer for The Atlantic, and Serhy Yekelchyk, professor at the University of Victoria, Canada, on the origins of the Ukraine crisis. 

Anne Applebaum is a staff writer for The Atlantic, a Pulitzer-Prize winning author, and a senior fellow at the SNF Agora Institute at Johns Hopkins University. Her books include Gulag: A History (2003), Iron Curtain: The Crushing of Eastern Europe 1944-1956 (2012), Red Famine: Stalin's War on Ukraine (2017), and Twilight of Democracy (2020).

Serhy Yekelchyk is a professor at the University of Victoria, Canada, and the President of the Canadian Association for Ukrainian Studies. His books include Ukraine: Birth of a Modern Nation (2007), Stalin's Citizens: Everyday Politics in the Wake of Total War (2014), and The Conflict in Ukraine: What Everyone Needs to Know (2015/2020).
