"Chondroitin Sulfate Materials for Regeneration of the Ligament-bone Insertion"
The goal of this work is to examine cell and growth factor interactions with the cartilaginous glycosaminoglycan (GAG), chondroitin sulfate. Chondroitin sulfate-modified materials were developed to investigate the effects of these sulfated GAGs on differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) toward a fibrocartilaginous phenotype.

"Real-time Closed-loop Techniques for Single Neuron Experiments"
The "dynamic clamp" is an increasingly popular real-time technique in neural electrophysiology that allows researchers to create virtual environments around single neurons by introducing artificial biological mechanisms or mimicking different experimental conditions. I will present examples of how this technique has led to new insights in neuroscience and introduce a software platform that we are developing for real-time closed-loop biological experiments.
