Full Summary:

Join Georgia Tech’s bone marrow donor drive on campus April 27, 2011.  Every year, more than 10,000 men, women and children get life-threatening diseases such as leukemia and lymphoma, and do not have a marrow donor in their family. To live, they need to find an unrelated marrow donor whose tissue type matches their own.   Where:  Georgia Tech Student Center Ballroom from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

April 27 2011 would have been the 21st birthday of Logan Chesnut. But Logan was diagnosed with leukemia (AML) on July 16, 2009 at the age of 19.  He fought hard for 18 months before succumbing to leukemia on January 11, 2011.

Mihaela Serban, a sister of Dr. Nicoleta Serban of Georgia Tech, was diagnosed with leukemia in February 2011. Without a bone marrow transplant, Mihaela’s rare disease has a prognosis of 36 weeks.

To join Logan’s family and friends in memory of his 21st birthday, and to help save the lives of Mihaela and other patients who need a donor, working with the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP), Georgia Tech is organizing a bone marrow donor drive on campus. We rally you to register as a marrow donor and/or to donate financially to help register as many donors as possible.

Join the marrow registry

Date: April 27, 2011

Time: 11:00am – 3:00pm

Place: Georgia Tech Student Center Ballroom

The test only requires a cotton swab brushed against the inside of your cheek.

To join, you only need to be between 18 and 60, be willing to donate to any patient in need, and meet the health guidelines.

VIew a Youtube video on the "National Marrow Donor Program."

The cost of adding a person to the marrow registry is $100.  However, Be The Match does not charge anyone to join the registry.  Be The Match relies on voluntary contributions to help add more potential donors to the registry.  Every $100 raised adds one new member to the registry.  Please give whatever you can afford at the marrow drive or go to Logan or Mihaela’s fundraising websites:
