Omar Isaac Asensio, Assistant Professor Omar Isaac Asensio, assistant professor in the School of Public Policy and director of the Data Science and Policy Lab, was recently re-appointed program chair of the natural resources, energy, and environment section of the 2022 Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management (APPAM) conference. The section is one of 15 at the conference, and Asensio will co-chair it for the second year alongside Lucy Qiu, associate professor in the University of Maryland’s School of Public Policy.
“It is an honor to be re-appointed by APPAM President-elect Kitt Carpenter. The field of energy and environment is growing rapidly at APPAM, and it’s exciting to be able to curate sessions at the forefront of the field,” Asensio said. “Our goal this year is to increase the pool of authors and reviewers by 50%.”
The conference theme for #2022APPAM is “Advancing Policy Research with Cross-Disciplinary Perspectives.”
Asensio’s first term as co-chair was for the 2021 conference, which was delayed due to Covid-19. That conference, titled “The Power of Inclusion: Incorporating Diverse Voices in Public Policy Analysis and Management,” will take place from March 27-29 in Austin, Texas, with the 2022 conference happening later in the year in Washington, D.C. A number of faculty and Ph.D. students from Georgia Tech and the School of Public Policy will present their work in multiple policy areas at the 2021 conference.
