Masuda and Huang present virtually for the Sophia University COIL class.Kyoko Masuda, director of the Japanese Program and associate professor of Japanese in the School of Modern Languages, and Yeu-Ann Huang, M.S. GMC-Japanese 2021, presented virtually at a Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) class at Sophia University on Jan. 18.
Masuda and Huang talked about (mis)conception of how Japanese culture has been perceived in the U.S. and how soft culture enhances the relationship between the U.S. and Japan. Masuda also presented her current Digital Integrative Liberal Arts Center (DILAC project), Japanese Manga: Corpus Development and Analysis. Huang discussed her final project for the M.S.-GMC degree, a translation project of Japanese online manga titled Rikon shitemo iiddesuka? Shouko no baai [Is it alright to divorce? In the case of Shouko] by Hiroko Nohara.
Sophia University in Tokyo is one of six partner universities where Georgia Tech students can study Japanese while immersing themselves in Japanese culture.
The 12-month Master of Science in Global Media and Cultures (M.S. GMC) is a joint offering of the School of Literature, Media, and Communication and the School of Modern Languages. Applications for Fall 2022 admission are due by Feb. 15. For more information, visit the program website.
