There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

Between the low supply of, and high competition for, some key nutrients like nitrogen in the open ocean, scientists have puzzled over the vast diversity of microbial species found there. Researchers from 13 institutions show that time of day is key, according to a study published in Nature Ecology & Evolution. Georgia Tech collaborators for the study include Joshua Weitz, Professor and Tom and Marie Patton Chair in the School of Biological Sciences; Daniel Muratore, a doctoral candidate in the Quantatative Biosciences program, and Rogelio Rodriguez-Gonzalez, a graduate student in the School of Biological Sciences.
