"What is Patentable, Enablement and Examples, and Basics of Patent Prosecution"

Yvonne Shyntum, J.D., Ph.D.
Partner
Pabst Patent Group

Yvonne Shyntum, J.D., Ph.D., partners with clients in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries to help protect, enforce and realize the value of intellectual property.

To this end, she provides creative counsel that aligns with her clients’ business goals and delivers immediate results.

Shyntum brings a sophisticated understanding of complex science and technology subjects to her work, aided by her Ph.D. in pharmacology as well as training in molecular biology, animal models of human disease, redox biology and toxicology. She combines a passion for discovery with savvy for finding the most innovative, practical, and efficient legal solutions for her clients.

Shyntum works primarily with universities, medical device companies and cutting-edge startups, counseling on all aspects of patent portfolio management, patent procurement and prosecution and due diligence. She regularly drafts and prosecutes U.S. patent applications; drafts invalidity, freedom to operate, and non-infringement opinion letters; and represents clients in pre-grant appeals. Yvonne also partners with a select group of lawyers around the globe to help clients prosecute patent applications in foreign jurisdictions.

Clients call on Shyntum to secure patents that add value to their business and protect against competitors. She is an “outside the box” thinker who is proactive about finding solutions that capture the broadest commercial scope for her clients’ innovations. A strong negotiator who won’t take “no” for an answer, Yvonne is not afraid of challenging patent examiners and their scientific assumptions in order to obtain the best outcome.

Shyntum's strong record of success is rooted in productive, longstanding client relationships. She places a premium on individualized attention and service, and clients appreciate her thorough preparation, constructive communication, technical know-how and budgetary sensitivity.

Shyntum is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and actively involved in peer organizations such as the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM).
