Hopeful Science Fiction for a New Year

There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. The new year is always a good time to think hopeful thoughts, so, to celebrate Science Fiction Day, Jan. 2, we asked the Science Fiction Studies faculty in the Ivan Allen College to offer some sci-fi books and movies positively brimming with hope. 

Their recommendations range from early 20th century stories in which ray guns are put to their very best use to a distant-future terraforming story gone terribly wrong, then ultimately right.
