The Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs (APSIA) recently announced grant funding for a workshop being co-organized by Rachel Whitlark, associate professor in the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs. The grant, designed to invest in junior faculty and foster inter-university collaboration, will allow Whitlark to launch a workshop on international security alongside professors from other universities.

The workshop, tentatively planned for the spring of 2022, will provide junior scholars in emerging technology and international security the chance to present their research. Whitlark was approached by Joseph Torigian of American University’s School of International Service, who had gotten the idea for such an event from one of his graduate students. Torigian also recruited Charles Glaser of George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs, who, coincidentally, was Whitlark’s Ph.D. advisor. All three schools are members of APSIA.

“This award is a great chance to deepen the ties between our APSIA partner institutions in Washington, D.C., and a great opportunity to grow the community of junior scholars working on critical issues in emerging technology and international security,” said Whitlark.
