Noah Crafts, a master’s student in international security in the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs, recently published an article in The Cipher Brief. The piece, titled “How China’s State-Owned Enterprises Factor Into Cross-Border Financing,” was published as part of The Cipher Brief’s Academic Incubator Program.
The Academic Incubator Program partners with national security-focused academic programs from across the country so as to share insights from their students. The Nunn School is a partner of the program.
Crafts’ article discusses how Western attitudes towards China’s state-owned enterprises – namely those related to infrastructure – have changed. Crafts talks about how some claim that China convinces other countries to invest in their infrastructure programs under false pretenses, while others argue that when Chinese projects under-deliver, it’s the product of growing pains with the program rather than fraud.
