There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

Title: Transgressive Narrative: Using Queer Failure to Expand the Boundaries of Epiphanic Narrative Structure
Abstract: This proposal examines the use of queer failure as a technique for expanding the current understanding of interactive digital narratives (IDN). In this work, I propose a theory of Transgressive Narrative building on the concept of queer failure, which re-frames failure as a culturally contextualized experience rather than merely the opposite of success. Through this reframing it is possible to design fail-states within IDNs which, when encountered by the interactor, leads to an epiphany through the experience of recontextualization, which allows for deeper understanding.
