Summary Sentence: Students can propose applications and commercialize $1B+ of GT annual research

Full Summary: Georgia Tech does $1.2B+ in research expenditures every year and is one of the top research universities in the world. The research develops several world-class technologies from new machine learning algorithms to better batteries. Once again, Georgia Tech is making its technologies available to students so that they can dream big on how to leverage these technologies to launch viable, scalable and sustainable businesses based on them.

The $1B+ Georgia Tech IP Competition will be a weekend event taking place virtually November 5-7, 2021. Finalists will be announced on November 8 and winners will be announced on November 9.
 

The $1B+ Georgia Tech IP Competition will be a weekend event taking place virtually November 5-7, 2021. Finalists will be announced on November 8 and winners will be announced on November 9.

Quick information about the competition:

  • Student teams of between 2 and 5 individuals will have access to a curated set of Georgia Tech patents
  • There will be a special Materials Science & Engineering (MSE) Track in addition to a General IP Track
  • Propose one or more commercial applications for the patent(s)
  • The deliverable is a 5-minute video about the application(s)
  • The winning team in each Track (MSE or General IP) will receive a cash prize of $5,000. The second and third place prizes will be $3,000 and $2,000, respectively within each Track
  • The winning teams will also go through a fast-tracked selection process for a spot in CREATE-X Startup Launch

Both technical and non-technical students are encouraged to participateThe competition is open to all Georgia Tech students (both undergrad and grad) across all majors. Both technical and non-technical students are encouraged to participate, as the competition is more on the application of technology to launch a viable startup. Students will register individually and form teams during the competition.
