Storey Chair and professor in the College of Computing who is also an adjunct faculty member in the School of Mathematics, has been named to the 2022 class of American Mathematical Society Fellows. Vempala is recognized for contributions to research of randomized algorithms, high-dimensional geometry, numerical linear algebra, and service to the profession. Fellowship in the AMS recognizes members who have made outstanding contributions to the creation, exposition, advancement, communication, and utilization of mathematics. Vempala, who is the director of Georgia Tech's Algorithms, Combinatorics,and Optimization program, also holds adjunct membership in the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering.
