There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

With synchronous generation fleets retiring and also with increase in extreme events, utilities and system planners have to make plans to ensure reliability of the system and ability to restore the system once an extreme event occurs. If there is a lot of sunshine and/or wind blowing, customers can ask why they do not have electricity. The presentation will discuss the capability of carrying out blackstart and system restoration from inverter based resources. Further, control interactions that can arise with multiple resources participating in blackstart will also be touched upon.
Deepak Ramasubramanian is a Technical Leader in the Grid Operations & Planning Group of the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI). He leads EPRI’s research projects on grid forming inverters and modeling and control of inverter based resources and distribution energy resources in weak power systems. He received his Ph.D. degree from Arizona State University (ASU) in 2017 and his M.Tech. degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT-D) in 2013.
