On Friday, Oct. 22, the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs, in partnership with former Sen. Sam Nunn and Colleen Nunn, hosted a lunch with Ambassador Bergdís Ellertsdóttir of Iceland. Also in attendance was Marc Glenn, Iceland’s honorary Consul General, as well as friends of the Nunn School from Bank of America and Emory University.
At the event, hosted at Georgia Tech’s Alumni House, members of the Nunn School briefed the ambassador on the school’s activities. Kirk Bowman, Rise Up & Care Term Professor of Global Development and Identity, presented on his work on philanthropy and global development. His work, which was tested in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was built around insights gained from initial studies of Iceland and their commitment to replacing “negative” addictions in young people with “positive” ones like extracurricular activities.
