Dr. AIsha JohnsonThe Georgia Tech Library is proud to announce Dr. Aisha Johnson, former director of North Carolina Central University’s Masters of Library Science program, will serve as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Outreach starting Dec. 6.
“We are extremely excited to welcome Dr. Johnson to our team,” said Library Dean Leslie Sharp. “She brings a wealth of experience, a deep background in cutting-edge user research, and a dedication to preserving the academic and social missions of the library.”
Formerly an assistant professor in NCCU’s School of Library and Information Sciences and a lecturer at Clayton State University’s Master of Archival Studies program, Johnson also spent three years as Supervisory Archivist at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum.
Johnson will be responsible for Library instruction, subject matter expert and archivist outreach activities, academic campus partnerships, services and faculty development. She will also oversee public programming, assessment, special collections, records and research data management and digital curation.
Johnson received her bachelor’s in Political Science from Florida State University. She continued her studies at Florida State, achieving a Master’s in Library and Information Science in 2009 and PhD in Information Science in 2015.
In the last decade, Johnson has received grants from Duke University, the Digital Library of Georgia, Beta Phi Mu International Library and Information Studies Honor Society, and the Institute of Museum and Library Services. She also received the 2020 Distinguished Alumni Honor from Florida State University’s School of Information. Dr. Johnson’s work was also recognized by the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, which honored her as a 2021 Freedom Scholar Award.
Johnson is a member of the American Library Association, the Black Caucus of the American Library Association, the Association for Library and Information Science Educators, and the Societies of American and Georgia Archivists.
