There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

Title: Noise Characterization and System Optimization for High-capacity Optical Communication
Committee:
Dr. Ma, Advisor
Dr. Barry, Chair
Dr. Bloch
Abstract: The objective of the proposed research is to experimentally characterize and optimize the noise and impairments of both coherent and intensity modulation and direct detection (IM-DD) optical systems to support future high-capacity requirements. We will characterize the phase noise tolerance for different applications and perform system design in coherent systems to lower down the cost and power consumption. We will investigate digital signal processing (DSP) techniques in IM-DD links to further improve its power budget and throughput.
