There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

The area on the corner of West Peachtree and 5th streets is being prepared to temporarily serve as a campus “flex area” offering opportunities for additional parking and greenspace as well as a location for outdoor concerts, pop-up restaurants, and food trucks.

The temporary flexible space will eventually house a 400,000-square-foot multi-tower complex. George Tower, named for philanthropists Penny P. and William W. “Bill” George, IE 1964, HON Ph.D. 2008, will be home to the nation’s No. 1-ranked H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering, as well as other programs. Scheller Tower will house the graduate and executive education programs of the Ernest Scheller Jr. College of Business. Both new towers in Tech Square Phase III are expected to open by 2025.

Site preparations begin today, Friday, Sept. 10, and are as follows:

  • Portions of Visitor Area 6 parking lot near the 828 and 830 West Peachtree St. buildings will be unavailable. The southwest area of the Visitor Area 6 parking lot will be available for use.
  • Installation of fencing to isolate the visitor parking lot from the construction zone.

Beginning Monday, Sept. 27:

  • Biltmore Place will accommodate westbound traffic only.
  • Expect sidewalk and parking closures at 5th Street, West Peachtree Street, and Biltmore Place.
  • The 5th Street westbound lane from West Peachtree Street to the Visitor Area 6 lot entrance will be converted to a bicycle lane and closed to vehicular traffic. However, the eastbound lanes will remain open for both vehicles and bicycles.
  • Patrons who need access to the Visitor Area 6 parking spaces should enter the lot from 5th Street via Spring Street.

This phase of the project is expected to last through February 2022. More information, including construction updates, will be shared as it becomes available.
